Responsibility Matrix Template
A responsibility matrix for setting out who is responsible for what across the areas and functions of your organisation, using a simple R, C, I key (responsible, compliant, inform). It makes roles and responsibilities clear at a glance, and comes in two layouts so you can arrange it whichever way suits.
ISO 9001 requires roles, responsibilities and authorities to be assigned and communicated (clause 5.3), and a matrix is the clearest way to do it. This form gives you that overview and supports the leadership and organisation requirements of a management system.
Two Versions in One Download
The download includes two layouts of the matrix, supplied as separate Word files rather than a single bundle:
- F-Q32A - areas and functions down the side, people across the top
- F-Q32B - people down the side, areas across the top
Built for ISO 9001 Roles and Responsibilities
The matrix captures what clause 5.3 expects you to make clear:
- The areas, functions or activities that need an owner
- The people responsible, compliant or to be informed
- A simple R, C, I key that is quick to read
- A single overview of who does what
What's Included in this Responsibility Matrix
The form is set out as a single matrix in your choice of layout:
- Header - prepared by, date and the project or area
- Matrix - areas and people cross-referenced with the R, C, I key
- Two layouts - by area (F-Q32A) or by person (F-Q32B)
Who Needs a Responsibility Matrix?
Any organisation that wants roles and responsibilities to be clear - especially as it grows or runs projects - benefits from a matrix. It suits any business, and supports the roles and responsibilities requirements of ISO 9001 and every ISO management system.
